In its simplest form, a website is comprised of 3 key ingredients. The domain name, the website design, and the website hosting.
A website can be designed in a number of ways, but ultimately it consists of a number of computer files. These files need to be physically stored (hosted) somewhere on the internet, and ideally you need an easy way of locating those files, so that the website appears on your screen. This is most commonly a domain name (the www. bit you type in or click on).
The first step is to register a domain name, something that represents you, your products or brand, depending on the purpose of the website. We have a search facility available here which will allow you to check availability and buy your chosen name. That will keep it safely yours for at least 1 year. After this time it will need to be renewed, usually 1 year at a time. Ready to begin your search? Click here.
We will cover hosting, its optional extras, and design later on.
